What to Expect: Before Intravenous (IV) Anesthesia Sedation
- Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment.
- IMPORTANT: If you take regular medications daily, please continue to take these medications unless otherwise instructed by the surgeon. You may take medication with a small sip of water.
- Patients may brush teeth.
- Do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to the appointment.
- If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, please inform the surgeon.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure and drive the patient home. It is suggested that a responsible adult remain with you for the rest of the day. Surgery will be re-scheduled if a guardian is not present.
- If prescriptions were given at consultation, please fill prior to surgery.
- Personal belongings should be left with your guardian in the waiting room. No cell phones or electronics are allowed in operatories.
- If the patient has asthma and uses an albuterol inhaler, please bring your inhaler with you on the day of surgery. If you forget your inhaler and we have to use one of our rescue inhalers, there will be a fee associated because inhalers are designed for single patient use and cannot be shared.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing so that we can easily place blood pressure cuffs, EKG lead and monitoring devices. An undershirt or tank top is recommended for women.
- Please wear sneakers or tie up shoes (no flip flops, sandals, high heels).
- Please do not wear contact lenses, jewelry, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
